Dr Tony Muller – Author “From Prussia to The Pacific”

Our progenitor, Hermann Gustav Guttenbeil grew up in Pyritz in Germany (now modern day Pyrzyce in Poland) during a period of great transformation in Germany’s history.  As a young man he left Pyritz in pursuit of a new life, and made his way to the South Pacific.  He eventually arrived in Tonga in 1881, where he found the contented life he was seeking.

The family he established in Tonga has continued for generations and has a proud and colourful history.  His descendants have grown and multiplied, and have scattered across the Pacific (with some even further afield).

With more than 130 years having passed since his arrival, it is timely that we, his descendants, gather to celebrate this fact.  Let us re-unite and re-connect; let us learn of our family history; and let us celebrate our common bond.  In honour of such a special occasion, the family history book ‘From Prussia to the Pacific: The Guttenbeil Family of Tonga’  will be officially launched at this event.  So to all of Herman Gustav Guttenbeil’s descendants – please join us in making the 2014 inaugural Guttenbeil Family Reunion a success!
